Building a Special Home
Project Build Chelsea’s Special Home begun in April 2013 when I (Chelsea’s Mum) begun asking for donations and assistance towards the construction. This dream home was only possible with the kind donations we recieved, we still have a large mortgage, but it is alot less than expected when building a home with so many modifications and special requirements to raise our disabled daughter.
In conjuction with Newstart Homes I was able to get more than 35 companies to assist, more than $70,000 worth of products, services and materials were kindly given to us.
Photos of inside the house are at the bottom of this page.
Here are the companies that have jumped on board to build Chelsea a Special Home.
Each company has donated or discounted either products, services or materials and we couldn’t be happier!

We worked along side an Occupational Therapist & Physio to assess Chelsea’s future needs around the home. The things we built in our home now include:
Air conditioning: as heat can trigger her to have seizures
Sound proof bedroom: extra instillation in walls – if Chelsea is woken from sleep by loud noise or even a motorbike driving past it will trigger her to have a seizure.
Wet room style bathroom: grab rails, minimal glass in shower in case of seizure, easy access for Carer to aid in bathing
Infrared Monitor in bedroom: security style to monitor in her room to be able to watch her sleep or when she wake. We currently use a baby monitor with screen but would love a built in one.
Door ways and hall ways : wheelchair friendly
Therapy / Sensory room:Chelsea has weekly visits from Physios, Speech Therapist, OT a room set aside as a therapy room would be ideal for her Chelsea. She response so well to sensory stimulation it would be great for her !
It is so heartwarming to have the community and companies supporting us and our goal of a Special Needs Home for our beautiful Aicardi Syndrome Girl – Chelsea.
